Federation of Small Business Advisor across the North West of England.
I help small business start ups to scale up with business planning and continuity planning.  Prior to this I was a Deputy Head Teacher at a secondary school in Chester, responsible for key departments in Science and Maths as well as timetabling and staff training.  In my spare time I like the gym and watching my son play football as well as walking and pencil sketches.

Juliet Jones, Governor
Wellbeing, Safeguarding, Prevent and World Changing Education

I have worked as the substantive headteacher in a primary school in Alsager for the last 4 years. Prior to this, I had the role of deputy headteacher. My hobbies include travelling and spending time with family.

Jane Newton, Governor

Hi, my name is Jane Newton. I have been a primary school teacher for over thirty years. I have worked in four schools. During this time,  as you might imagine, I have seen lots of changes. I have two grown up children, one academic, one practically orientated. Both attended the same schools but with different experiences. This has highlighted for me, the need to take into account every child’s strengths and needs even though they may be different from the others around them. This is what I believe the Cornerstone Academy does extremely effectively and why I chose to become a governor.
I love to spend as much of my free time as possible in North Wales by the sea with my family and six dogs.

Alex Soulsby, Parent Governor

I’ve joined the Local Support Governing Board for Cornerstone Academy as the parent of a child who has attended mainstream, Cornerstone and now, a specialist school setting.
I’m passionate in making sure that all children receive an education which fits their needs both academically and mentally.  I have first hand experience making positive changes that impact a child’s mental health.
I work in Governance in my day-to-day role and think these skills will tie in nicely with the role of parent governor.  I have two daughters, two cats and a dog and in my spare time I’m completing a course on Understanding Autism and enjoy reading and listening to music.

Amanda Whitehead, School Staff Governor

I am a Learning Mentor & Pastoral Lead.  It’s a rewarding role helping disengaged children return to full time education.  I have worked with pre and primary school aged children for over 12 years whilst raising a family. I have a son and daughter both studying at university. Outside of work I enjoy attending my local gym and walking my black labrador, Jamie.

My name is Damien Sweeney and I am the headteacher of Cornerstone Academy.
I grew up in Lancashire before moving to Manchester to study Biology and then gain a PGCE in primary education.
I have taught in mainstream and alternative provision for over twenty years with varied roles including class teacher, assistant headteacher, deputy headteacher and headteacher.  Five years ago I started The Crescent Pupil Reintegration Unit in Cheshire East and, in January 2019, I started Cornerstone Academy with the YES trust.
I believe that every child needs the opportunity to develop and thrive in school.  Sometimes a mainstream setting isn’t appropriate and an alternative is needed.  This is why I love working at Cornerstone Academy, we give children a second chance to thrive, develop and succeed.
When I’m not working I spend time with my family, travelling and enjoy playing tennis.  I have a mean forehand!
