Mental Health & Wellbeing
The mental health and wellbeing of everyone at Cornerstone Academy (staff, students and parents) is fundamental to our ethos and vision.
The mental health and wellbeing of everyone at Cornerstone Academy (staff, students and parents) is fundamental to our ethos and vision.
To ensure that through the promotion of positive mental health and wellbeing, children and young people are supported to understand and express their feelings, build their confidence and emotional resilience.
To increase the awareness and understanding and reduce stigma amongst students, staff and parents/carers of issues involving the mental health and wellbeing of young people and to provide support at an early stage to any student who is or appears to be suffering from mental health issues.
Mental health and wellbeing is a varied and complex area and there are no quick fix solutions. Maintaining every day, regular routines wherever possible, such as, attending school and lessons whilst working towards managing mental health is key. School offers a range of services to help students develop positive mental health and wellbeing and support those experiencing mental health issues.
To help us achieve our positive approach to mental health and wellbeing, we have an amazing and friendly staff team who are available to support students and families should the need arise.
If you would like further advice on any of the areas above please contact us.
At Cornerstone Academy, we use My Happy Mind to help create a positive mental wellbeing culture in which children build resilience, self-esteem and character. My Happy Mind uses the latest research, science, and technology to help children develop lifelong habits and learn to thrive.
My Happy Mind is taught across the whole school in weekly sessions, and pupils take part in fun and engaging interactive lessons narrated by lovable characters who come to life as animated characters on screen. It consists of 5 modules:
Meet Your Brain – Learning about how our brains work
Celebrate – Understanding our character strengths and celebrating ourselves
Appreciate – Developing gratitude as a habit
Relate – Building positive relationships
Engage – Engaging with the world
Free Parent App
A free app allows parents and carers to continue to embed the learning at home and fun games and activities keep children motivated to live the habits they have learnt at school, when they are at home. Also included are activities for parents and carers to do together with their child at home which complement the in-school lessons.
