My name is Sophie Neilson. I am the class teacher at Cornerstone, Congleton. I have taught for eight years and upon returning from two years in sunny Dubai, moved to teaching in alternative provision. Teaching at Cornerstone is truly the highlight of my career so far and working with our children daily is a privilege. Outside of school I love practicing yoga, experimenting with cooking different cuisines and exploring the Cheshire countryside.

Hi, my name is Katrina Macey. I have been teaching in mainstream schools for ten years and was previously a Special Educational Needs co-ordinator before now moving into alternative provision. My passion is to support children who find the mainstream classroom challenging and to find new and fun ways to engage them in education. Outside of school I enjoy travel and I am a keen baker. I also enjoy aerial arts, learning circus skills using the trapeze, fabrics and hoop.

Learning Mentor/Outdoor Ed Lead

I’m Katie Carter, I have worked in education setting for over 6 years. My experience covers both class based support for children in a variety of schools and outdoor education. My passion is to engage and motivate children whilst outdoors. I have trained as a forest school practitioner which enables me to work with team members to deliver an alternative to classroom learning.

Learning Mentor

I am a learning mentor based at here at Cornerstone, Congleton.  I have previously worked within Cheshire East for 28 years in various roles supporting children with social, emotional and behavioural needs.  Having personal experience of the care systems I have empathy and understanding of the demanding needs of these children. I enjoy socialising with family and friends and also enjoy a round of golf in my spare time. I am married with 5 grown up children and nine grandchildren.

Learning Mentor

Hello, my name is Declan Coxon and I am one of the Learning Mentors at Cornerstone. Becoming a learning Mentor at Cornerstone is my first step to working in the education sector after graduating from University. Whilst working at cornerstone, I thoroughly enjoy being able to help and support the students in a classroom environment. I also love to stretch and challenge the students through the use of PE at cornerstone, allowing the students to develop their social, emotional, physical and cognitive skills. Outside of work, I try to take part in as much sport as I possibly can, as it has been a love and passion since a very early age. I also enjoy travelling with my partner and seeing the many places our world has to offer and spending time with my family and looking after my young nephew.
