SEPTEMBER SCHOOL REOPENING
30th August 2020
Dear Parent / Carer,
Below is the plan for a return to school from the 2nd September following the summer break.
As you are aware, the Government’s plan involves a full reopening of Primary Schools from September. This is also the case for The Cornerstone Academy as an Alternative Provision School for Primary Children.
We will reopen to children on Wednesday 2nd September to all the children who were attending up to the summer break.
We will also be accepting new referrals for places at Cornerstone; this will happen in the usual way where a school will contact The Cornerstone Academy and the process will start with a telephone conversation.
On The Cornerstone Academy website, you will be able to find information relating to the re-opening of school. Here you will find behaviour expectations of the children who are and will be attending. It is important that you share these expectations with your child as social distancing and following school rules is of paramount importance, more so than ever before.
During the summer break, Haslington and Marlfields schools have undergone a deep clean and so has The Cornerstone Academy, ready for when children return. Rest assured that we are following government guidelines regarding the health and safety of the children and the staff when children do return to Cornerstone.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and understanding throughout this unprecidented time. We will be in touch in the usual ways; website, email, Dojo and letter to give clear instructions over the coming weeks.
Stay safe and do not hesitate to contact us if you need anything.

A WELCOME MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD TEACHER
At Cornerstone our aim is to re-engage the disengaged. To help children who are at risk of permanent exclusion find their way back into full time education whether that be mainstream or specialist. To enable the most disadvantaged children to discover their love of learning and in doing so massively increase their future life chances.
At Cornerstone we live by the following core principles, which run through everything we do.
- We provide a supportive and caring environment to allow all children to learn and develop in their own way to reach their full potential.
- We prepare children for reintegration into mainstream education, where it’s appropriate to do so.
- We improve each child’s behaviour and attitudes towards their peers and adults.
- We help build each child’s self-esteem, self-confidence and integrity.
I hope you enjoy looking through our website and that it gives you a taste of what we do and what we try to achieve.
Mr D Sweeney
